Post Offices stay open late for tax deadline

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If you haven't filed your taxes, the clock is ticking.

In previous years the downtown Post Office has made an event out of this day, with entertainment, even massages for those waiting in line. But workers say this year has been a slower one, thanks to e-filing and Automated Postal Centers. For the few who chose to paper file, postal workers will be staying up late.

The Prairie wood and Downtown location in Fargo will both be open until midnight. A postal worker will also be at the Downtown location to help you send out your taxes.

If you live in Moorhead, post offices will be closing at regular times. Remember, you have until eleven fifty nine tonight before the mail is taken out.

“We’ll pull all the boxes inside the main office here and in Prairiewood and our outside drops at 12 and we will cancel them with today’s date. After that we'll change the date and it will be tomorrow so if you get here too late it will be too late.”

According to the Internal Revenue Service about one-fourth of taxpayers still have not filed. As of tomorrow, unless you filed for an extension, your taxes must be post marked April 15th or you could be fined.
