Will the Twins lose home field edge with the new stadium?
(WDAY Sports) - There's no question that over the years, the Twins had a distinct home field advantage in the Metrodome, but now Target Field is their home. Will the Twins still enjoy an edge over opponents? WDAY 6 Sports Director Dom Izzo discovered that not even the Twins know for sure.By: Dom Izzo, WDAY
Welcome to the 545 million dollar palace known as Target Field. Every team knew of the Twins’ advantage in the Metrodome. Is that now gone, playing under blue skies and in the elements?
“I hated the Dome too. On a nice day, you're going into the dungeon to play. It was tough for everyone, losing pop-ups in the roof. Now we're sold out with 40 thousand for a long time. That'll be the home field advantage.
“We've seen how it plays, the batter's eye, how the turf plays. That's about all you could ask for the two days we were here.”
“I liked the Dome. Don't know why, probably pitched better there. Just something you'll have to get used to. It's a great park. It all feels like its right on top of you. There's not much foul territory.”
“Wind was swirling, but it'll take awhile for us to figure out how to play it. Don't give up on foul balls. The wind could push them around. I am looking forward to get going and playing meaningful games.”
