FARIBAULT, Minn. (AP) — Faribault authorities say hope is fading as rescuers continue to scour the Cannon River for signs of a 20-year-old woman who was swept away.
Brittney Landsverk was a passenger in a car that plunged into the water Friday about 5:15 a.m. Another passenger pulled her out but she slipped back in.
Rescuers searched for her all day Friday, calling off the search at nightfall. They resumed Saturday and planned to continue until dark.
The 21-year-old driver was in critical condition at a hospital Friday night. Two other passengers weren't hurt.
Rice County Sheriff Richard Cook says the search has been "laborious" as rescuers fight a strong current and near-freezing water temperatures.
Rescue crews say the river is as deep as 12 feet in some places.
