PRACS facility in East Grand Forks to close

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Cetero Research company spokeswoman has confirmed that the North Carolina firm will close its PRACS Institute facility in East Grand Forks, Minn., by mid-May.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Cetero Research company spokeswoman has confirmed that the North Carolina firm will close its PRACS Institute facility in East Grand Forks, Minn., by mid-May.

But April Johnson would not say how many employees will lose their jobs. She also would not confirm that some PRACS employees in Fargo also will be laid off.

James Carlson founded PRACS in Fargo in 1983 and sold it three years ago but still remains involved. He said he was angry Wednesday when he learned of the layoffs from employees. He estimates that between 25 and 30 workers in Fargo have been given notice.

Mike Hellman, a manager at the East Grand Forks PRACS, said it employs 35 people full time and about 70 part time.

PRACS pays people to take part in research on new drugs.
