Report sheds light on Fargo firingFARGO, N.D. (AP) - An investigative report released Monday provides more information on the firing of Fargo's public works director.
The report says Al Weigel (WHY'-gul) allegedly awarded a contract to a company he has ties to without calling for bids. Weigel is accused of getting tickets to sporting events from the company, Epic Solutions, and of making thousands of copies for the company on city copiers.
He is accused of using a city credit card to buy fuel for an Epic vehicle while on a trip to a trade show in Texas. The report says Weigel said it was cheaper than driving his city vehicle or flying.
The report says Weigel acknowledged that there could be an "appearance of impropriety." He denies wrongdoing, and can appeal his firing for violating the city's policy on awarding contracts.
