Dike removal to begin in Oakport
Oakport Township, Minn. (WDAY TV) - The dikes in Oakport will be removed starting tomorrow morning, with a goal to be 80 percent done by Wednesday. Three miles of clay line roads and yards.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
About 80 thousand tons of dirt needs to be removed from neighborhoods. The cost to do so is 400 thousand dollars. Crews will clear roads first, and then focus on levees in yards. Town leaders hope to have Wall Street back open by Tuesday.
“There'll be a lot of heavy machinery moving on Wall Street so we just ask people to stay back, watch from a distance. It's fun to watch, it's interesting to watch but no one got hurt this year so far and it's too close to the finish line to take that chance.”
Sandbag levees have already been taken down.
