FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Democrats paid tribute on Saturday to longtime Sen. Byron Dorgan.
Dorgan isn't running for re-election. The 67-year-old Dorgan has been in public office for 41 years, including time as North Dakota tax commissioner, congressman and U.S. senator.
Delegates watched a video about Dorgan's career and listened to praise from his North Dakota colleagues in Congress — Rep. Earl Pomeroy and Sen. Kent Conrad.
Dorgan himself said that despite the recent fierce disputes over issues, he's optimistic the nation can solve its problems and that America's best days lie ahead.
