FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Kulm rancher and alternative energy activist has the North Dakota Democratic endorsement to run for the state Public Service Commission.

Brad Crabtree had no opposition for the endorsement. He'll be running against incumbent Republican commissioner Kevin Cramer this fall.

Crabtree says he's worked on energy policy in North Dakota and internationally for the last 20 years.

He says North Dakota's energy policy is stuck in the past, and it's important that the state take a leadership role in the new "clean energy economy."

The Public Service Commission regulates electric and gas utilities, coal mining, land reclamation, pipelines and large wind energy projects. It now has three Republican members, and Crabtree says the Republican monopoly needs to be broken.
