6 advance in NDSU president search

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The committee searching for a new president for North Dakota State University has pared the list of candidates. The committee has chosen six candidates for off-campus interviews. Officials also are checking the references of five additional candidates who recently submitted applications.

Five candidates have been removed from further consideration, including NDSU's two internal candidates — interim President Richard Hanson and D.C. Coston, vice president for agriculture and university extension.

NDSU is searching for a successor to Joseph Chapman, who announced his resignation as NDSU president last October after criticism of his spending.
