Growing pains pay off for Hillcrest
Fergus Falls, Minn. (WDAY TV) - The Hillcrest boy’s basketball team has enjoyed resurgence this season. One year after winning only 10 games, the Comets are now in full preps to head to the state tournament.By: Dom Izzo, WDAY
The growing pains of last year have really paid off for Hillcrest, which will make its first state trip since 2001. Not much was expected of the comets this season, which makes this payoff all that more rewarding.
“Most of these guys had what we call baptism by fire last year. We didn’t have a big senior class; Jared Schultz was out for the year. There's no substitute for varsity basketball, so that's what I think what created some of the depth this year.”
Hillcrest faces Ellsworth on Thursday. The Panthers are ranked 7th and beat the top ranked team in class A, Maccray, to make the state tourney.
