MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty says he's confident that the Moorhead area has everything in order ahead of the Red River's expected crest this weekend.
Pawlenty toured parts of Moorhead and the nearby Oakport Township area on Friday. He said he thought any flooding would be manageable.
The Red River is expected to crest at 37.5 feet at Moorhead and neighboring Fargo, N.D., on Sunday, comfortably below both cities' flood protections.
Pawlenty has a Saturday meeting with the head of the Federal Emergency Disaster Agency in St. Paul, where the Mississippi River is near flood stage. Pawlenty says the FEMA chief, Craig Fugate, will visit East Grand Forks on Sunday.
