Flood threat delays procedures at Fargo hospital

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The prospect of flooding in Fargo, N.D., is forcing outpatient procedures to be delayed for patients at at least one Fargo hospital until after the Red River's expected crest Sunday.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The prospect of flooding in Fargo, N.D., is forcing outpatient procedures to be delayed for patients at at least one Fargo hospital until after the Red River's expected crest Sunday.

MeritCare's Dr. Bruce Pitts said Thursday that the decision was made to minimize the potential for patients coming to the hospital getting in the way of military and other trucks used to help fight the expected flood.

The decision to delay procedures also helps ensure the safety of traveling patients.

But the hospital doesn't have any immediate plans to evacuate like it did for five days during last year's flood.

The Red River is expected to crest on Sunday at 20 feet above the flood stage.
