BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's labor commissioner and a county prosecutor are among seven attorneys who've applied for a state district judgeship in Fargo.

They're competing to succeed incumbent East Central District Judge Georgia Dawson, who's retiring Sept. 1.

The applicants are state Labor Commissioner Lisa Fair McEvers, assistant Cass County state's attorney Constance Cleveland, administrative law judge Susan Bailey, federal court clerk Nancy Morris and private attorneys Maureen Holman, DeAnn Pladson and Jason Hastings.

A judicial screening committee will interview the applicants April 23 and forward a list of recommended choices to Gov. John Hoeven. He has the choice of appointing one of the finalists, requesting a new list or calling an election to fill the opening.
