Fargo organization is continuing 211 service

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators say a Fargo organization may continue providing a statewide 211 referral service.

North Dakotans use the 211 phone number to get social service information.

A Fargo nonprofit called FirstLink has been running the statewide network since late last year. The previous operator couldn't afford to keep it up.

FirstLink notified North Dakota's Public Service Commission that it would have to drop the statewide service on March 15 if it didn't get additional aid. Since then several North Dakota agencies have pledged their support.

The Public Service Commission on Thursday said FirstLink may keep operating the statewide service. Commissioner Brian Kalk said no other organization has asked to take on the job.
