The change in taste and smell is from decaying vegetation farmers left in the field last fall. It hasn't happened for a few years, but is now because of the flood.
City officials say it is safe to drink, bathe in, and do laundry.
“We actually have switched to our well water. 50 percent are wells and so, we're getting 50 percent from the river and that should alleviate the taste and odor issues in the next few days.”
Moorhead leaders plan to ask homeowners to start conserving their water use by the end of the week.
