Volunteers needed in Cass County to help protect homesFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Water is already swallowing backyards in Cass County and volunteers to help protect homes are hard to come by.
The Urban Plains Center opened this morning as the county's main staging area for volunteers and so far the number of volunteers requested by rural residents is out-pacing the number of volunteers showing up.
At least one hundred volunteers are needed in Oxbow and along Forest River Drive. There's also a call for volunteers in the Selkirk settlement and Horace. Volunteers are mostly building sandbag dikes. Some property owners also need help making sandbags.
The emergency operations center is trying to cluster homes into project areas, in order to use volunteers most efficiently. Just a note, if you want to help in the county, plan on working a few hours, busses are running back and forth every four hours. Food and beverages are available.
