Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo is going into full flood fighting mode, that from city officials at an emergency city council meeting this morning.By: Todd Kurtz, WDAY
Members voted to award contracts for clay dikes throughout the city. They say it's time to take all this planning into action, now.
During the meeting Mayor Dennis Walaker says after the latest flood forecast we need to get moving and start guarding the city. River levels for next Friday are now predicted to be around 8 feet higher than previously expected.
Today the city awarded contracts to start building clay dikes. Those dikes will go up in Rose Creek, Timberline, and along drain 53 near 64th avenue.
In North Oaks the city planned to put up a dike and block the river from coming down this drain, but now because the ground is too soft heavy equipment can't get in and out of the area. Instead they'll put up sand bag dikes along these backyards.
Next week the city will look a lot like it did a year ago. Construction for those dikes will start on Monday.
