Driver rescued after pickup crashes with a train

(WDAY TV) - Authorities say alcohol and fog were factors in a truck/train accident in Rustad, Minnesota.

Authorities say around 11:00 Friday night, Shawn Christ of Rothsay was going eastbound on county road eight when his truck was hit by the train, rolled, and landed in a flooded ditch. They say he was up to his chin in water, and had to extract him from the vehicle.

Christ was taken to Innovis Hospital in Fargo.

"It is somewhat uncontrolled other than a stop sign for the railroad crossing and the railroad cross walks, cross walk signs but other than that there are not arms for the railroad crossing or other lights or bells."

The BNSF train had little damage. Authorities say Christ was the only one in the truck and only one injured. People we spoke with who live nearby say they've been fighting to get a railroad arm in place there, but one hasn't been put in.
