Morneau back to his old form

(WDAY Sports) - Opening day is just three weeks away for the Twins and as they get set to defend their division championship, they know they'll need a healthy Justin Morneau if they want to go back to back.

Morneau missed the last month of the regular season last year with a stress fracture in his back, while his team played its best ball of the year.

He's back this spring ready to go back to his old form, but understands that he may need to take it easy to start.

“It has forced me to slow down and I couldn't do a whole lot for the first couple months. Now it feels good, got a clean bill of health, scan showed everything healed up, so I'm excited to be ready for April 5th.”

“He’s a guy that takes 1,000 swings a day, 1,000 ground balls a day, and there's a reason why he's successful, but we've got to keep his season going and that's by giving him a few days off here and there, and that's tough because he's game on.”

The latest news on Joe Nathan today, he says he plans on testing his injured elbow on Saturday.
