MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court says he's stepping down after two years on the bench.
In a statement Thursday, Eric J. Magnuson says he's leaving effective June 30 and returning to private practice.
In a letter to Gov. Tim Pawlenty, the 59-year-old Magnuson cites "reasons personal to me and my family."
A court spokesman says Magnuson won't give interviews Thursday. Pawlenty appointed Magnuson as Minnesota's 21st chief justice on Mar. 17, 2008, and took office June 2, 2008. Before that, he was attorney practicing in state and federal appellate courts.
