Meeting held to address part of Fargo that had flood issues last spring

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo leaders are confident about the flood plans for a popular part of the city that had problems last spring. About two hundred homeowners from the Drain 27 neighborhood came to the last night of meetings.

The city protected the area to 44 feet last year. City officials have been reviewing plans to see what changes are needed. Existing levees are good until 42 feet so the area west of interstate should be okay.

Sandbags and temporary levees will be needed east of interstate and 52nd Avenue South will likely be closed.

“It's kind of new territory for us. We weren't sure if we were going to get a gradient on the backwater as it's come through or if it's going to back up from the Red and both of those two events ended up roughly the same.”

The city will monitor the area, but homeowners are being told to keep a close eye on their sewer systems in case of backup.
