ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Senate leader plans to hold a hearing on concerns that Gov. Tim Pawlenty is siphoning staff from other state agencies for use in his own office.
DFL Sen. Don Betzold wants to cut $1 million from the governor's operating budget. Betzold says he's concerned about Pawlenty's use of interagency agreements to pay for staff positions in his office.
Betzold says he's particularly concerned about $30,000 in revenue from the Support Our Troops license plate that was used to support a veterans outreach position in the governor's office.
Department of Veterans Affairs deputy commissioner Michael Pugliese says it was an appropriate use of the license revenue. He says the staffer was able to connect veterans with community services.
Minnesota Public Radio reports Senate finance committee chairman Richard Cohen plans to hold a hearing on the interagency staffing agreements within the next two weeks.
