Gov. Pawlenty: More diversion discussion needed, but focus is on 2010 flood fight
Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Governor Pawlenty in Moorhead today is pushing for flood protection, but not solely a Minnesota Diversion. He wants options.
Pawlenty says more discussions on permanent protection will come in the future, but for now he's focused on the 2010 flood fight, which he says Moorhead and Clay County appear well prepared for.
Pawlenty toured the city's sandbagging site this morning and thanked volunteers for their hard work. Pawlenty promised state resources similar to last year from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the DNR, pollution control, and more.
He's also sent a letter to President Obama requesting a major disaster declaration for the state and direct federal assistance. He says he'll comply with whatever permanent protection method the study group elects following the flood fight, but hopes they consider more than one option.
