Emergency declaration

Moorhead and Clay County both declared a state of emergency. The goal: to free up local funding and to show the president our region needs federal assistance.

Moorhead and Clay County are preparing for a 38 foot Red River crest and sandbagging earlier than ever before. But until the President declares a flood emergency, there's no guarantee we'll get reimbursed for any flood costs.

Moorhead's Mayor says the local declarations get the ball rolling. He says a visit from Governor Pawlenty tomorrow is also a key piece in getting state and federal assistance.

“That's the risk we're both under in doing this is that we're putting expenditures out there with the idea in mind that they might not be reimbursed, but it's something we still have to do.”

Governor Hoeven has already requested a presidential emergency declaration for North Dakota.
