The latest form of coupon clipping

(WDAY TV) - Using your cell phone while checking out at Target could save you money. It's the latest form of coupon clipping, but no coupons or clipping involved.

No more coupons piling up here or here. Next time you check out, check out your cell phone for savings.

“Its simplicity and I think it's going green.”

If your cell phone has internet access, you can sign up to have coupons emailed to your phone. If you don't have internet, Target can text message you coupon barcode numbers. What you'll do is open up the coupon on your phone and present it to the cashier so they can scan it, otherwise they can just type in the barcode which is text messaged to you.

Tiffanie Loeb/shopper: “I don't really use them often, but I think if it came to my phone it would be really convenient and I would probably use it if it was something I needed.”

Anthony Borbon/shopper: “I use the internet on my phone and I do use coupons so it'll all work out if they do have it available and I could save some money here or there.”

Linda Wallevand/shopper: “I have cell phone but I only use it to call out, and I don't text or anything like that.”

The savings are the same, but for a society depending more on cell phones for things like email, navigation, social networking and more, it may be a swifter way for some shoppers to save. To sign up, go to target.com. It could take two weeks to start getting coupons. Target is the first major nation-wide retailer to use the barcode technology.
