Jed Rothstein correctly spelled 'xanthochromia' (zanth-oh-KROH'-mia) to land a spot in the national competition June 2-4 in Washington, D.C.
Rothstein beat two other contestants left in the 19th round of competition Tuesday afternoon at the Minnesota Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee in Fergus Falls.
Devin Johnson, a seventh grade student from Duluth, was knocked out on the word 'troglobilont' (troh-GLOB'-il-ont). Annandale eighth grader Christina Huling went down on the word 'irremeable' (ih-REE'-mee-ah-bul).
The Daily Journal says it will be Rothstein's first visit to the nation's capital. (You've never heard of xanthochromia? It's the yellowish appearance of spinal fluid).
