Moorhead school administrators plan for possible spring flooding
Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Administrators with the Moorhead School District are taking steps to have a plan in place in case flooding becomes a major issue this spring.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
Last spring, Moorhead cancelled school during the height of the flood. Students and staff helped sandbag.
This year, the school district has worked with the city to come up with a plan should flooding become a major event. The school board will hear details at tonight's meeting. Up to 40-feet, the schools would function normally.
Students and staff could help sandbag during free periods and after school. If river levels climbed above 40, the district would consider cancelling activities and possibly closing school.
“It depends on so many factors. Icy roads contributed to that last year and we had to close schools, but our buses were used for evacuation, but we are not planning an evacuation this year.”
The school district's web site will continue to update parents and staff about changes.
