Game winning shot doesn't drop for the Bison this year
(WDAY Sports) - It was a disappointing end, bordering on cruel; both the Bison men's and women's basketball teams losing Summit League quarterfinal games by one point in overtime.By: Dom Izzo, WDAY
It had all the markings from last March, the Bison down double digits in the 2nd half only to rally to tie the game. But instead this season, the game winning shot did not drop for NDSU.
“Look at the shot Zastrow ended up getting us at the end. He put us in position to win the game. He's going to have way more of those looks by the time it's said and done.”
“I heard Coach Richman say here we go again. I was kind of hoping for it, Nate's one of our best shooters. I'd have him take 1,000 times over again.”
It was remarkable that NDSU was even in that position. The Bison were down 13 points with 14 minutes to go in the game, but led by South Dakota native Mike Tveidt's 22 points, the bison kept chipping away at the Oral Roberts lead, eventually to tie and force overtime.
“We never feel like we're out of it, whether we're down 10, 17, or 16. Always make a run in the 2nd half, so we kept hope and faith and get the stops we needed.”
“We came here to win. We wanted to be in the championship game and go to the NCAA, and we just fell short and that's frustrating. I know our record might put us in that position where people don't think we could do it and we fell short.”
“I got a real passion for the kids that played for us this year and I wanted desperately for them to have an event to hang their hat on. What would have been better than a conference tournament?”
This loss to Oral Roberts typified the season for NDSU; the Bison were 5-7 in games decided by 6 points or less.
