(WDAY TV) - Richland county's emergency manager is traveling the county, identifying each town's flood protection needs to get dike-building started next week.

Brett Lambrecht met with leaders in Abercrombie, Dwight, Great Bend and Lidgerwood. Most of those towns are looking at putting dikes up along certain areas of the town to keep overland waters out. He says they need to get protection up soon.

"Trying to protect their infrastructure of their city lift station and their sewer system is what we're doing now and see what we can do where we're going to put mechanisms in place to protect them."

Lambrecht says they hope to start dike construction next week. People in Richland County will soon be able to get sandbags.

Bags will be given out March 19th through the 21st at the Armed Forces Center in Wahpeton. You can also get a list of contractors for sand to fill the bags.
