FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Twelve candidates are advancing in the search for the next president of North Dakota State University.

Interim President Richard Hanson and Vice President for Agriculture D.C. Coston are among the dozen a search committee wants to look at more closely.

Another candidate moving forward is William Ruud, president of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. The University of North Dakota alumnus was among the top four finalists in the UND president search in 1999.

NDSU search consultant Garry Owens says he expects up to 10 additional candidates to apply. The committee's next meeting is March 24.

Joseph Chapman announced his resignation as NDSU president last October after criticism of his spending.
