Documentary profiles WWII soldiers from North Dakota
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The 10th Annual Fargo Film Festival entered it's second day with a fascinating documentary profiling North Dakota men who served in World War Two.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
And North Dakota native Cody Shimek featured his documentary "Small Town Soldiers." Shimek, now a film-maker in the Twin Cities, grew up in Watford City and went back recently to interview veterans from rural McKenzie County who served in World War Two.
The nine veterans sat down with Shimek and shared stories of those years on land and sea. Some interviewed for the documentary have already passed away, another reason Shimek says to record the past and preserve these stories.
“The whole war from beginning to end from Pearl Harbor to the end of the war to returning home it is told in their own words.”
Shimek says he wanted to tell the stories of these men who returned home from the war and went about raising families and working every day, keeping these stories inside them.
