Still no extension for Mauer
(WDAY Sports) - The Twins play their first spring training game on Thursday, and while their superstar catcher has basked in the new spotlight on him, for example video game covers; there is still no extension for last year's American League MVP.By: Dom Izzo, WDAY
And as the season gets closer to starting, the distraction grows even bigger for Joe Mauer, but he's concentrating on the new year.
“Obviously a lot of people are concerned about it, but I think we've been real clear this off-season and here in camp we're not going to talk about it. Things will happen when they need to happen, and just try to let it happen, come in here and focus on what we're trying to do this year and not looking past this year.”
“He's one of the best players in all of baseball and when it comes down to it. All you really want to do is win ballgames and we feel like we can do that here and that's the reason he'll stay.”
The Twins face the Red Sox in their grapefruit league opener on Thursday night.
