Back in the 50's, the streets were just a way to keep traffic moving out of downtown. Project workers say there needs to be easier access for pedestrians, bikers and walkers. The plan is to make either two lanes of traffic in one direction, and one going the opposite way, or just a standard two lane street, both with lanes for bikes.
“And you see the success of the work that was done on Broadway in the downtown area and we want to bring some of the success and some of the elements of that to NP and First.”
Project leaders say it would be an inexpensive change. 2012 would be the earliest time for the change.
