There are three projects proposed to build three emergency, short-term Dikes around Oakport. The town needs 90 percent of people to sign up to pay the cost of construction, for it to move forward.
“Concern is that we have a plan that can take load off volunteers and I'm afraid people are going to look at us and say, they didn't help themselves when they had the chance.”
If the town gets 90 percent approval, the cost falls on the shoulders of that 90 percent who signed up. Anderson says the town may qualify for reimbursement from FEMA.
