Warehouse floor collapses under thousands of sandbags
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - 5 to 8-thousand sandbags are lost until contractors make sure more of a North Fargo storage warehouse doesn't collapse. Fargo's now making sure its 3 other storage facilities are strong enough to hold thousands of sandbags, while attorneys discuss who's to blame for the accident.
A beam like this also supports the floor. It collapsed under the weight of sandbags. No one was hurt when part of the floor failed at this facility at 26-hundred 3rd avenue North, but some sandbags tore.
Bruce Grubb oversees the sandbagging process for Fargo and says these roughly 8-thousand bags will not be hard to replace if needed, and they've secured additional storage space at one of their other 3 storage sites.
He says the city assumed a landlord wouldn't offer storage space, if it couldn't handle the weight. This is the only storage site where the bags aren't being stored on ground level.
Before any of these bags can be removed, contractors have to put in a temporary support beam to support the wall, to make sure it doesn't collapse too. Grubb says both the city and the landlord have liability insurance for these types of unexpected events.
