New church body formed for congregations that leave the ELCA
(WDAY TV) - Ever since last summer's vote to allow openly homosexual pastors, congregations with the E-L-C-A have been debating on leaving the church body.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
Now a new group says those who leave will have a place to go. Lutheran Coalition for Renewal is a group working to build a new future. It's in the process of forming a new church body called the North American Lutheran Church, a place for congregations that have decided to leave the E-L-C-A.
Leaders say the vote was not the only reason for this but call it a symptom of a bigger problem.
"We've tried to you know change the direction and that the ELCA is not going to be changed so we need to move ahead with our own new institutions."
CORE is for both people staying with the ELCA and those leaving.
