FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Correspondence between Fargo officials says the investigation of the city's public works director stems from the purchase of $100,000 of GPS equipment.
City administrator Pat Zavoral says in the letter that Al Weigel ignored city policy when he bought the equipment from Fargo-based Epic Solutions without first soliciting bids.
Zavoral also says Weigel may have a personal financial interest in Epic Solutions.
Weigel has been placed on paid leave during the investigation.
A call to a number listed for Weigel rang unanswered on Saturday.
The Department of Public Works is responsible for street maintenance, snow removal, water mains, the city fleet and city forestry.
