Top corps official to visit Fargo-Moorhead

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Sen. Byron Dorgan says a top Corps of Engineers official is visiting the Fargo-Moorhead area on Thursday.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Sen. Byron Dorgan says a top Corps of Engineers official is visiting the Fargo-Moorhead area on Thursday.

The North Dakota Democrat says the visit by Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh is important in the effort to get permanent flood control for the area.

The Red River reached a record level in Fargo last spring and is expected to flood again this spring.

The corps is studying the idea of a river diversion, which a metro flood committee believes is the best option for flood control.

Dorgan is chairman of the Senate's energy and water appropriations panel, which funds the corps. Dorgan asked Walsh to come to the Fargo area.
