Minn. Dems pull back construction bill before veto

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty says it's helpful that Democrats are pulling back a $1 billion construction projects bill before he can veto it.

Pawlenty says there is no confusion about his priorities for the package, including size and mix of projects. He says Democrats intentionally put together a larger bill than he wanted and "now they've got to clean up the mess."

Democratic House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher (KEL'-uh-her) said Tuesday that she won't send the bill to Pawlenty, pre-empting his veto for a "cooling off period."

It would have been his second major veto of the session. He rejected a bill last week that would have extended an expiring state health care program for low-income adults.
