Code Red system installed in Richland County

(WDAY TV) - People in Richland County will now be better informed during the flood. Code Red will soon be used across the county.

The system sends emergency alerts about flooding, evacuations, or other public threats through an automated message to home and cell phones, and through texts messages and emails. Emergency officials say this will let them keep valuable emergency phone lines open.

"We would like to upgrade to a system where we don't have the hardware here. Its internet based and we don't have to maintain all that."

All the numbers on the current "reverse 9-1-1" system will be moved over to the Code Red. You can add your number on the Richland County website. Breuer hopes to have the system up and running by the end of next week.
