Lease at ND speedway falls through; racing on hold

WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Racing at the Red River Valley Speedway has been put on hold after a lease agreement for the track fell through. Bryan Schulz, general manager of the Red River Valley Fair, says the fair board and businessman Danny Schatz couldn't come to an agreement after two months of negotiations.

Bryan Schulz, general manager of the Red River Valley Fair, says the fair board and businessman Danny Schatz couldn't come to an agreement after two months of negotiations.

The fair board voted in November to give Schatz, father of World of Outlaws Sprint car champion Donny Schatz, a three-year lease. Soon after, Danny Schatz announced plans to modify the track.

Schulz announced Saturday that the negotiations were fruitless. He says racing has not been profitable for the fair and there are no plans to have races this year.

Before Schatz showed interest in the track, the fair board had been considering shutting it down because of financial problems.
