Oakport's 7 mile dike won't be complete by spring(WDAY TV) - Oakport isn't as ready as its people wanted to be for a potential 2010 flood.

The township started building a seven mile dike after last year's flood, but only finished 30 percent of it because the wet fall stopped construction.
They planned on having at least 60 percent completed by spring. Oakport is asking the army corps of engineers if it'll put up an earthen levee to fill the gap and protect the flood prone town up to 80 percent.
“From Oakport's side, right now we don't have the funding to do it. The township's budget couldn't bear it. So we’re hoping the Corps will come in and make it a federal project.”
The township's yearly budget is only 25-thousand dollars. If the corps won't pay for the earthen levee, Anderson will ask the people of Oakport if they want to pay for it themselves. If so, they would be assessed.
