Semitrailer carrying cattle crashes on I-90 in SD

BRANDON, S.D. (AP) - The Highway Patrol says several cattle died when a semitrailer carrying the animals went off Interstate 90 near Brandon in southeast South Dakota.

BRANDON, S.D. (AP) - The Highway Patrol says several cattle died when a semitrailer carrying the animals went off Interstate 90 near Brandon in southeast South Dakota.

The crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday when the driver hit a patch of snow. The patrol says the semitrailer tipped over in the ditch.

Authorities say only 17 of the 35 cattle survived. The semi driver was not hurt.

Traffic was detoured while the surviving cattle were transferred to another trailer. The eastbound lanes of the interstate reopened about 3:30 a.m. Friday.
