Minn. officials: Designate a driver for Super Bowl

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Twin Cities law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to get a designated driver and to buckle up to and from Sunday's Super Bowl parties.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Twin Cities law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to get a designated driver and to buckle up to and from Sunday's Super Bowl parties.

Authorities say during Minnesota's Super Bowl weekends from 2006 to 2008, alcohol-related crashes accounted for five of the seven motorists killed — and all five were not buckled up.

During that same period, more than 1,400 motorists were arrested for DWI.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek says partygoers need to take time to make a plan "and stick to it on gameday."

Authorities say Super Bowl party hosts should set the rules for their guests. That includes using a sober driver or public transportation or planning to spend the night at the party location. And they say every driver and passenger should be buckled up.
