Tonight, at the regular township meeting, leaders talked about plans in place to fight another possible flood this spring.
Part of the plan is once the river hits 37 feet, leaders want emergency levees put up at various points. They say even though they're in the early stages of a possible flood fight, it's good to keep talking about a plan of attack.
“The bigger part is just to keep the residents informed. The fear is just spread wide. Everybody's so burned from last year; they just don't want to go through it again this year.”
Oakport spent between 800 and 900 thousand dollars for the 2009 flood fight, all but about 25 thousand dollars was reimbursed by FEMA. The townships yearly budget is only 25 thousand dollars.
