BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — About 110 high school students and 20 teachers from around North Dakota are coming to Bismarck on Sunday for the two-day North Dakota Close Up program.

The goal of the program is to spark interest among young people in the democratic process and in becoming active participants in government.

Students learn about the functions, structure and constitutional responsibilities of each of the three branches of government. The media and special interest groups also are examined because they can influence government policy.

Students also get to meet state government officials and lawmakers.
