On this crisp January day, Wynn Roberts prepared for another day of Olympic training. It's not quite the Olympic Village of Vancouver, but a picturesque farm near Battle Lake. It has been his practice facility as he prepares for the Olympic Games, now just days away.
“A lot of excitement, it is my first time in anything as big as the Olympics.”
There's a lot to the sport. After skiing a route, Wynn quickly drops down, Breathes, and fires off his rifle, nailing every target in front of him.
“Try to shoot every other heart breath or heart beat.”
Being part of the USA Biathlon team has brought him around the world, but today, here at home in Battle Lake, he couldn't be happier for the support of neighbors an friends who watched him grow up.
“It is a huge motivator and it keeps me motivated for the next four years and trying out for the next Olympic team.
Wynn will leave Battle Lake for Vancouver for more training this weekend. His events are 2-hours from Vancouver.
And the town of Battle Lake turned out for a big send off for Wynn today. People from around the area gathered at the community center to get autographs and wish the Olympian the best at the upcoming games.
Wynn and his parents still live in Battle Lake, and say the support from the town has been there for Wynn over the last few years as he has competed and worked to make the U-S-A team.
“Always, but it started years ago when he went to his first national event the church passed baskets and he would not be where he is now without the community and the support from it.”
Wynn's family plans on attending the games in Vancouver for the games.
