Aluminum market value jumps

(WDAY TV) - Recycling your cans just got more profitable and that could be a sign of a stabilizing economy.

Aluminum's market value jumped from 20 cents a pound to 30 cents a pound this week.

Minnkotas Sales Manager Mary Aldrich says exports are driving the price increase. Other countries are willing to pay more for aluminum in part because there is less of the commodity available.

Aldrich says statistics show the U.S. consumes less canned beverages in winter, and in a struggling economy.

“I think we're probably starting to see some stabilization in the market and the demand for product, which is great for the economy.”

Those bails of aluminum you saw weigh about one thousand pounds and are worth about 350 dollars each.
