The driver and two children riding in the back were not injured, but state troopers cannot believe what they found once they got on-scene.

Late this afternoon, state troopers began documenting the fatal crash. Reconstruction experts on scene near the I-94 Pelican Rapids exit. A woman with three passengers was heading west on a slick interstate before dawn.

One person trapped inside the vehicle. The woman riding in the front seat was not wearing a seat belt.

“Appears to be partially ejected and that means you get rolled over. Hard to survive that.”

The state patrol is still looking into why the children were not wearing seat belts and how the 2 year old survived being ejected from the car still amazes veteran troopers.

“Miraculously no one was seriously injured. It was very minor injuries like bumps and bruises. Very fortunate they were not injured.”

And in the midst of the tragic crash, the state patrol says some good lessons to be learned for all of us from this crash.

“You have to use your seat belt. That is your best defense against someone else’s mistake or Mother Nature's trouble.”
