LAKE BENTON, Minn. (AP) — Xcel Energy says its $65 million transmission project in southwestern Minnesota is done ahead of schedule.
The 50 miles of transmission lines in the Buffalo Ridge area will deliver more wind power to Minnesota and South Dakota customers.
Xcel executive Kent Larson says the project was expected to be finished later this year, but state regulators wanted to increase wind power in Minnesota, so the project was pushed up.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Xcel is required to generate 30 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2020.
